Hi and welcome. Jim here.

Thanks so much for your interest in helping me help you.
Please feel free to contact me in person and we can discuss
what needs to be done to bring you back to the joy
and fulfillment that you deserve.

About Me

My experience is as a teacher, a counsellor, and a mental health support provider. As a teacher at the high school and community college levels, I have come to understand the issues and challenges particular to young people. And I derive great joy in assisting people in this age group find their way toward regaining the passion for life that is their due.

I am also very familiar with the issues, experiences, and challenges of being an adult - having been one for most of my life. I have extensive experience with people of all ages in areas of mental health and addictions, and career, academic, and workplace counselling and I am associated with most of the community action players in the Grand Forks and Boundary area. I also have a good working relationship with insurance groups such as ICBC and WorkSafe BC, as well as various workplace benefits providers.

Before counselling and teaching I have had a variety of gigs. I fought fires, did a brief stint with the Canadian Forces, worked as a computer technician, and, while getting my first degree, I was a welder/mechanic (carman) for CP Rail for 14 tyears. So, in addition to my counselling training, I know the world of everyday working people.

I am married and have a 21 year old daughter with whom I love to ski and ride motorcyles. One of my main passions is riding. And my own main therapy is long rides - sometimes with my daughter - on my awesome Triumph bike. No matter how much growing up we have done - we don't always need to act like it. - Jim

Some information to help you get started

While much of my counselling involves working with young people, I am fully comfortable with adults of all ages. My considerable life experience has provided the skills and insight essential to understand the issues of working, parenting, adulting, maintaining relationships, and getting older.

Unlike the younger people I serve, those of us of a certain generation and higher have a natural reluctance to seek mental health help. This is normal. But it can also be costly in terms of one's own well-being. My message is that we still matter - that we still deserve the joy and richness that life continues to hold out if we are willing to accept the offer. And my job is to help you believe this and live your life accordingly.

So please, if you feel you are suffering in silence, or if you have had an inkling that you could use some help - or at least someone who will listen - please reach out. You will find me understanding, non-judgemental, and very easy to talk to. I am easy to reach, and our first conversations will be informal, relaxed, and free.
